Senior Psychologist Specialist | Statewide Mental Health Program, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
Dr. Marilyn Immoos’ achievements have largely been driven by the passion she has for her work. As a clinical psychologist, she has aided patients in handling a wide array of mental health issues. She started working in the field in Europe as a part-time assistant psychotherapist and assistant trainer at the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center in Lauzendorf, Austria, and as a part-time managerial psychologist at the Fischhof Institute of Managerial Psychology. Moving forward, she combined her passion and training in music to work as a music therapist at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Basel, Switzerland.
Dr. Immoos focused on studying music in her undergraduate studies, spending time at the New England Conservatory of Music, California State University, Sacramento and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She received a Master of Arts from the University of Innsbruck and later a PhD in psychology from the University of Vienna. As a musician, she commenced her career as a concert singer in Vienna and then joined the City Theatre in Lucerne, Switzerland as a mezzo-soprano. In 1988, she founded and became the director for the Center for Psychology of Voice in Zurich. In addition to these roles, Dr. Immoos has conducted community and church choirs, composed new music, collaborated on children’s choirs and helped prepare other singers as a vocal coach.
In her career, Dr. Immoos developed a statewide psychology internship program and co-authored the article Reduced Bone Strength and Muscle Force in Women 27 Years After Anorexia Nervosa in the International Journal of Endocrinology.
